Behold, he is the life and the light of the world. Behold, he is the word of truth and righteousness.
How is Jesus Christ all that? Well, here are some ways he can be those things.
He is the life of the world:
Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
The death he’s talking about isn’t physical. It’s spiritual.
Further spiritual death comes as a result of our own disobedience. Our sins make us unclean and unable to dwell in the presence of God (see Romans 3:23; Alma 12:12–16, 32; Helaman 14:18; Moses 6:57). Through the Atonement, Jesus Christ offers redemption from this spiritual death, but only when we exercise faith in Him, repent of our sins, and obey the principles and ordinances of the gospel (see Alma 13:27–30; Helaman 14:19; Articles of Faith 1:3).
Death, Spiritual – Gospel Topics
When you believe in Jesus, you can repent and be healed from spiritual death, meaning you will live again.
He is the light of the world:
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
The darkness is spiritual darkness, not physical. It means walking without a knowledge of the truth. When you follow Christ, you are walking in the light, because now you know the truth and are following the gospel.
He is the word of truth:
There is no truth but what belongs to the Gospel.
Teachings of the Prophet Brigham Young
And the Gospel is written by God, and Jesus delivers it.
He is the word of righteousness:
Similar to the above, whatever God and Christ want is right.
“… Whatever God requires is right, no matter what it is, although we may not see the reason thereof till long after the events transpire. If we seek first the kingdom of God, all good things will be added”
Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith
