Offense

Posted on

Inasmuch as ye are not guilty of the first offense, neither the second, ye shall not suffer yourselves to be slain by the hands of your enemies.

Alma 43:46

What does the Lord mean here?

“Inasmuch as” means “As long as”

“ye are not guilty” means “you were not the cause”

“of the first offense” means “of the Lamanites coming the first time”

“neither the second” means “or the next time, or any of the times”

“ye shall not suffer yourselves” means “you will not”

“to be slain by the hands of your enemies.” means “be killed by your enemies.”

So, if it’s the Nephites’ fault, then they might die. But as long as the Lamanites were the cause, they will live.

What counts as the Nephites’ fault and what’s the Lamanites’ fault?

It’s the Lamanites’ fault if they want power so they come at the Nephites for pretty much no reason.

It’s the Nephites’ fault if they go taunting the Lamanites’ or something like that.
