Moroni’s Scripture

Posted on

In Joseph Smith–History, he said that Moroni quoted some scriptures differently from “what it says in our Bibles.” Why? Because the King James version of the Bible is not translated correctly. The eighth article of faith says, “We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly…”. So, Moroni was quoting from the correct translation of the Bible, which we now know as the Joseph Smith Translation (JST). I know this because Joseph said Moroni read Malachi 4:1 like this: “For behold, the day cometh that shall burn as an oven, and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly shall burn as stubble; for they that come shall burn them, saith the Lord of Hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.” The King James Bible reads, “For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the Lord of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.” The JST is the same as what Moroni read.
