The Hail Storm

Hail! Hail Hail!

The hailstorm was on Saturday, April 12, 2014. Dad told me to clean up my room, and then Dad looked out the window. Dad it was going to rain. We could not work in the yard.

While I was cleaning up my room, I heard thunder. I looked out of the window and though, “Oh, it’s just the rainstorm.” I kept cleaning up my room.

Then there was more thunder! I looked outside again. I watched the rainstorm for a little while. Then I saw white on the ground! I thought it was raining and snowing at the same time. Then I heard loud banging. I thought that Dad was doing some work in my bathroom. But it was not coming from my bathroom. It was coming from Mom’s bathroom, and it wasn’t Dad! It was hail on the roof!

Mom, Dad, and I looked out my bedroom window. Mom it was hail. Caroline came in to the room. Mom asked her if she wanted to look too. We all looked together, and Dad went downstairs. From the window, it kind of looked like snow. I saw the hail bouncing on the ground. Mom said it looked like balls bouncing.

I was a little scared because it was so noisy on the bathroom ceiling. I was happy too because I knew there was nothing to worry about.

We saw Dad pick up a ball of hail outside. Mom said, “Go downstairs and see what Dad has, Paul!”

I went. Mom followed. Dad showed me the ball of hail and threw it in the sink. Mom picked up the still round ball of hail and let me touch it. It was round. It was a little lumpy. It felt watery, but it was hard like ice. It was the size of a golf ball.

I wonder when the next hail storm will be.
