When Lehi had his vision in 1 Nephi 1:12, he reads a book: “and the first came and stood before my father, and gave unto him a book, and bade him that he should read.” What is that book? I think that it is the same book John sees in Revelation 5:1: “And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals.” Doctrine and Covenants 77:5 says: “Q. What are we to understand by the book which John saw, which was sealed on the back with seven seals? A. We are to understand that it contains the revealed will, mysteries, and the works of God; the hidden things of his economy concerning this earth during the seven thousand years of its continuance, or its temporal existence.” So, that book shows God everything that happens on Earth. It reminds me of Glinda’s Book of Records in The Wizard of Oz, which recorded everything that happens in the land of Oz.
